50 years of experience in hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical metals recycling

MOVA Metals is a global technology leader in the recovery of critical metals and innovator in renewable energy.

Having serviced the oil refinery industry since 1973, MOVA is the world’s largest recycler of spent petroleum catalysts. We use hydrometallurgical operations to produce the pure oxides of molybdenum and vanadium. These unique patented operations allow us the flexibility to optimize metal content in spent catalyst. Our processes deliver a sustainable alternative to landfilling and exporting of hazardous materials.

We are the leading Verified Recycler and Reclamation Facility of spent catalyst globally. The process recovers molybdenum and vanadium that are then reused in chemical and metallurgical applications by major catalyst producers, steel and battery manufacturers.

We maintain an on-site state-of-the-art laboratory not only for verifying incoming catalyst compatibility, but also for adherence of stringent quality controls of finished products destined for critical metallurgical and chemical applications.

MOVA Metals
10 MW electric arc furnace (EAF) for nickel, cobalt and alumina recovery
MOVA is building recycling operations to generate 40 GWh of battery metals annually suitable for electric vehicles and electrical storage systems. MOVA intends to process spent batteries from consumer electronics, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems (ESS). We are developing a closed-loop domestic supply chain for battery materials manufactured from end-of-life lithium-ion batteries and other spent polymetallic materials.

MOVA uses pyrometallurgical operation to produce high-quality nickel-cobalt alloys and alumina products.

Our mission is to be the most innovative recycler of cobalt, nickel, manganese, graphite, and lithium; as well as the nation’s premier supplier of battery grade commodities, including cathode active materials (CAM).
Electric Vehicles & Energy Storage Battery Metals

We are building an integrated hub-and-spoke recycling process that links lithium-ion battery collection and disassembly stations, called “Spokes”, to a state-of-the-art metal refining complex in Texas, called “Hub”, that employs a hybrid combination of pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical operations to manufacture battery grade materials.

Our business model encompasses opportunities across the entire lithium-ion battery value chain, from lithium-ion battery collection, discharge, disassembly, and preprocessing at the spokes, to delivery of the black mass to the hub where extractive metallurgy processes are used to produce battery grade chemicals.

Multimodal Transportation

MOVA is located in the heart of the nation’s largest petroleum refining corridor, the US Gulf Coast.

The Freeport operations are designed to process a combination of molybdenum-rich (HDS) and vanadium-rich (RDS) spent catalyst and can receive shipments by various modes of transportation.  The facility is easily accessible by rail and truck or by barge or vessel through the Port of Freeport and Port of Houston. The site has rail and truck unloading upgrades for efficient operations in all-weather conditions.
Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability

MOVA Metals is not only committed to developing sustainable solutions  for the future, but to also be a leader in environmental stewardship.

To achieve this we are helping the oil industry minimize the carbon footprint while managing complicated environmental issues. We strive to strike a balance between industry and nature and are committed to sustainable development and product stewardship.

It is estimated that only about 5% of lithium-ion batteries are recycled globally, leaving 95% that are either sent to landfills or not even collected. North America has no large-scale solution to the increasing volumes of spent lithium-ion batteries that are being disposed in landfills or exported. We offer a scalable, eco-friendly solution for disposal of rechargeable batteries, such as nickel metal hydride and lithium-ion. This model acts to eliminate the disposal of batteries in landfills, which reduces the environmental impacts of landfill disposal.

We are increasing supply of critical metals recovered at our recycling operations facilities while reducing the need to increase US based mining efforts and to prevent the need to rely on import of metals from foreign locations to keep up with the growing demands.
